New/ old earrings

An old lady came in the store the other day, asking me to look at some of her earrings that she wanted to sell to a friend. She was going to ask around 300,- a pair, and I almost had a stroke.. The earrings she brought was a pair of pretty large white gold diamond studs, some gold ones with pearls and a pair of cameos in a gold setting.

I told her that for the diamond studs alone she could add a zero and take that number and tripple it. She was stunned. She had no clue about the values that she was carrying around in her little purse. We talked for a while and it turned out her friend was really only interested in the diamonds and maybe, just maybe the pearls. She didn't care for the cameos at all, thinking they were out of fashion.

As ya'll know, I love cameos. In fashion or not, I personally don't give a rats ass, I like them and I wear the ones I have quite often. I have a pendant that is a light pink and white cameo in a gold setting, and I've been on a mission to find matching earrings for...3 years now.. I couldn't for the life of me find any that matched the colour and size of my pendant, for a reasonable price. Not here, not even in Italy.

This lady's cameo earrings were the PERFECT match in colour, size, style etc, so I just had to have them. She said she would have thrown them out when she got back home, so I bought them from her right then and there in my store. She walked out with a big smile and some cash, but I think I had an even bigger smile on my face that day, having finally found my perfect earrings.

I like the fact that they are slightly uneven, that one of the camoes has a flaw on the side and that if you look close the lady dipicted are different in the two earrings.

These are antique (late 1800's) hand carved, real cameos in an hand made gold setting.

The lady told me that she has a few other old cameo pieces around her house that she doesn't ever use, so she promised she'll stop by and show them to me one day soon.

Can't wait! (my poor poor wallet....!)
